Two days in a row ain't bad, eh?

Meant to be home by 1 AM but wound up watching American Pickers until 2 while Ariel snored. And snored. And snored. Interesting stuff. American pickers, not the snoring. Makes me want to start up my movie poster collection again. I've got about every movie poster released in 2004 and 2005 in my closet. And an original 1959 Ben Hur poster that Ariel gave me for my birthday. But I'd really like to start finding more of the vintage ones so that I can preserve them. You know... so some other schmuck doesn't buy them up, cut them up, and destroy key pieces of the history of American cinema for some friggin collage.

I once came across a 1981 "Endless Love" poster at an antique shop which I couldn't stop laughing at. The tagline was "She is 15. He is 17. The love every parent fears." Gasp! Taboo! Back in 2005, for a brief period of time, I was 15 and my girlfriend was 17 (we were 13 months apart... oddly enough I was closer in age to her younger sister than I was to her). Apparently I was quite the little badass.

Another tagline that made me laugh was the one that Mainetoday added to my own blog. "On the official blog of Raining Soup Picture, Mike Robida holds the spoon. And sometimes stirs the pot." Touche.

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum this afternoon. Got into a physical fight with my brother. Not a real fight, more of a wrestling match. And strangely enough Ariel, who was a spectator and has always had a very strong stance in the "it's brian power and a sense of humor that really turns a girl on" department, suddenly seemed more attracted to me than ever before. This actually bothered me a little bit because the incident lead me to believe that even the nicest of nice girls prefer rugged men over the flighty film-making types. Damn it.

I don't know if it was my sudden burst of testosterone that did it or simply her excitement regarding her four hundred and twenty dollar tax return but Ariel treated me to a shopping spree at Hollywood Video this evening. You see, various Hollywood video and movie galleries are closing up shop and they're having insane sales. They're selling their new release collection for under eight dollars a DVD and their core collection for under four dollars a DVD.

Ariel told me that I could get any six core collection DVDs that I wanted and I was off like a kid in a... let's not say candy store... "kid in a candy store" in so cliche... how about... David Duchovney in a whorehouse? No. Dated joke. Christ, I'm like a re-run of "The Soup."

Anyway, I was ecstatic to snag DVD copies of Scorsese's "The Aviator" and "The King of Comedy," Woody Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors," "Celebrity," and "Broadway Danny Rose," and Chris Smith's documentary "American Movie."

Overall, a good day. Didn't get too much work done. Finally finished the first half of my sci-fi outline for the Canadian film-maker and applied for a job at Bed Bath and Beyond. More tomorrow. Or soon. You know how I am.
