BSL in Denver

Whether you agree with the BSL (Breed specific legislation) or not you should keep abreast of what is going on. It could affect you, your dog and your insurance in the not too distant future. Denver is going ahead full steam with it this week.

Play Find the Pittbull (it took me four tries!)

Here in south Florida we have a similar ordinance in mIami-dade for pit-bulls. We have huge underground dogfights-where these dogs are trained to kill each other.
People steal mellow dogs like goldens to train these dogs as bait. Its quite sick. Having said that there are plenty of pit-bulls that are great dogs and there are plenty of goldens that are aggressive.
Once you start picking on one breed -its very easy to pick on all breeds.
If a dog is so aggressive that people can get hurt -sometimes there is no choice but to euthanize. Even with goldens we are faced with this problem when someone gives up a dog because they felt it was aggressive with the kids. We take the time to evaluate the dog -talk to veterinarians and trainers to figure out what the best solution is. For the most part -its not euthanasia. We have had dogs where that was the only choice but after days of consultations.
My Golden Casey hates the black lab next door. They square off at each other-doing something I call "Give each other the finger." The other day Casey pushed out the screen and went flying through the window opening like the cow that jumped over the moon and landed on UBU.
maybe goldens should be next.
Last week my neighbor Frank's Chihuahua
got out of the yard-i stopped my car to get him as he was running around in the middle of the street. The little bugger bite me-the poor thing was scared to death. His other option was he was five second away from being road kill.
maybe Chihuahua should be next

I have 2 dogs - one is an AmBull mixed w/any other bull breed you care to name - we rescued him at 5 weeks from a homeless man. He is now 5 1/2 y.o.

The other is a pedigreed Staffordshire Bull Terrier from a kennel that has a legacy of award winning dogs. She is 1 1/2 y.o.

I love my dogs, train my dogs, control my dogs and my dogs are not allowed to run free to do whatever comes to mind. Other animals in the home are a persnickity 15 y.o. former feral cat and the occasional dog that I board.

My dogs have moods and personalities. Sometimes they bark or snip or growl at each other or other dogs. With out words this is the way to communicate and dogs understand each other. It is people that don't understand.

They have done no wrong other than to have the word "bull" in their breed name. If I lived in Denver I would have no dogs - they would be dead - because of a word - "bull" - not because they have done anything wrong, but because they are dogs with the word "bull" in their name.

Shame on the city of Denver - all of you hang your head in shame for being so short sighted.

Other cities are concerned about their citizens, but they did not resort to creating a Dog Holocaust. other cities are not going into their residents' homes and taking dogs to their death.

Instead they enforce limitations on the owners who will be cited if a dog (any dog) is unleashed, running loose, and, specific to bull breeds, not behind a fence or wearing a muzzle in public.

Death is not the solution in these other cities.

Wow I for one was horrible at that test, had it narrowed down to about 15… Wonder what their specific wording is in their law, I have a feeling they are mistaking breeds. Then again a few of those breeds I had never even heard of so… I thinkI will stick with my Aust Sheppard, I can reconise them

Hi Chuck!
With Italy placing restrictions on St Bernards, Border Collies and Corgies, can Aussies be too far behind?

Could my Rottie, Atlas, be next? How crazy can people be? It's called "responsible ownership". Punish the bad owners, not the dogs...
