Subtle Cues
Check out Sheba the Wonder dog and see if you can spot her handlers subtle cues that indicate to her to stop counting.
What is a cue? That is the signal to start or stop a behavior. Ever hear of Clever Hans?
I LOVE the Sheba clips!! I've watched them over and over instead of working *grin*
The answers are being signaled by where he places his left hand. I can't really figure out the exact combination for numbers over 4. Do you know the combination of signals he uses?

Hi Sandi,
Figures it would take another trainer to find my question as interesting as I did! I think he is cueing her with his right hand by increasing the pressure upwards just a bit and mostly with his middle finder. (giggle giggle).

So much FUN!! I have dial-up at home, so I couldn't watch these clips until today (staying at a friend's house).
Thanks Nancy!
PS Entertaining as it is, do you think Sheba is just a one-trick poney?!

That is a good question.
She seems to have a great bond with her owner and most likely they have worked together quite a bit. If she had other tricks as dazzling, I am sure they would have showed them off on TV though. She looks like a sweetie and she sure has sit stay down pat!

This is a standard "magic" trick with many variations. His presentation is rather good but to discuss it in full detail would take about 2,000 words. For those that are really interested I will be discussing it Saturday, September 24, 2005 - 9 AM to 4 PM
