The tale of the purple volcano
This funny story of a writers dog over eating and the subsequent vet visit reminded me of the first week I had Charlee. My son had a fever and he accidentally dropped a purple Children's Tylenol on the deck and Charlee scarfed it right up. We called the Vet right away because Tylenol is toxic for dogs. He told us that we needed to induce vomit and he advised us to give her Hydrogen peroxide. The poor dog turned into a purple volcano. Her mouth would open and the purple fizzy lava just rose and spewed. Poor dog, it was hard not to laugh. The little kids wanted to do it again (we never did!!!).
Anyone else want to share any good "I can't believe my dog at the whole thing" tales?
( of course we all realize that dogs ingesting things they shouldn't can have grave consequences, please post only stories with happy endings!)
Well just the other night at bedtime one of the 3 year olds had lost a sock. We looked everywhere and could not find it and the screams of anguish did not help much I might add. Finally gave him an other sock to shut him up and put them to bed. Woke up to a pile of dog puke in the lvg rm and guess what the main feature was? yes the missing sock.. sigh.

I heard about this from a dog trainers chat board. This may be an urban tale *grin* sure sounds like it.
Dog ate a pair of panty hose. The vet advised to watch for it to pass in the stool.
This dog obviously had a good digestive system cause at the next bowel movement out came a tell tale toe.
However, the dog could not pass the whole pair of panty hose.
Mom had to offer assistance by carrying a pair of scissors with her for the next 2-3 bowel movements. *grin*
At each movement another bit of panty hose was expelled and it was Mom's job to cut it off when the pooch couldn't get any more out.
UGGGHHH!
Eventually it was all pooped out *grin*

I had an "incident" when one of my folks dropped a vitamin E pill on the floor -- fortunately, according to the vet, it wouldn't do him any harm however, I DO want to alert people if they or any members of their family are taking a number of medications due to age or medical problems as w/my folks who are both going to be 90 this Fall, to be SURE that they swallow the pill and haven't accidentally dropped it -- 2ce during this past month I discovered a blood pressure pill "hidden" in a chair cushion in the space beside it and before that, i luckily found another on the floor by the chair before my dog who LOVES food, found it -- the person taking the pill thought they had taken it but some pills are so small, they will fall off the person's fingers or lips and they won't be aware of it -- my sister, who's a nurse, said she has always been told to watch and be sure the pill being taken is swallowed -- even for myself I've noticed that some pills are so small, it's easy for them to past thru' your fingers when you THINK it's been put in your mouth -- and of course, this isn't only for your dog's safety but for anyone w/small children who may think they've picked up a "treat"
